In an ideal world, managing ecosystems is a zero-sum game.
The positive and negative impacts of all actors would add up to zero.
The extent to which this is true for an ecosystem indicates its smartness.
Whether an ecosystem is natural, engineered, social or economic, a smart ecosystem puts its inherent intelligence and that of the dependent community to work: it achieves and maintains its optimal scenario in which it generates as much value as possible allowing actors to contribute and profit optimally.
For ecosystems to become smart, their self-sustaining nature needs to be enhanced and secured. The way in which the generated value is used should not disturb the balance with which the ecosystem sustains itself.
Since our entire world consists of ecosystems, such a balance is something we all desire. But we tend to believe that this is out of reach or would take a disproportionate effort to achieve.
But is that still true?
TUPIX allows any community of stakeholders to make their ecosystem smart. It provides the methods and tools needed to properly monitor and manage an ecosystem to generate and give access to its maximum value while becoming and remaining self-sustaining.
The TUPIX ecosystem management suite consists out of technologies enabling four core functionalities:

The state of an ecosystem is continuously measured by a highly autonomous and fault tolerant sensing system.
The measured positive and negative impacts on the ecosystem are automatically assigned to the users that cause them in the form of certificates and obligations.
The exchange of value, certificates and obligations is effectuated by automated transactions that are secure and transparent.
TUPIX’ combination of IoT and blockchain enabled smart contracts can find its applicability in a variety of use cases. As environmental monitoring in most instances has to be translated into subsequent activity; e.g. evaluation, enforcing of regulatory frameworks, facilitating decision-making, optimizing cost-effectiveness etc., the weak points in the mechanisms used to this end are to be found in the disconnectedness of the different components they consist of. TUPIX combines these elements into one integrated system that:
After these steps, we have created a TUPIX ecosystem, with participants and contracts between them. At this point, we have an ecosystem that is ready to be brought into production. Before we reach this point however, we first run simulations in a variety of situations, so that all partners can see the effects of their actions. After these simulations have been executed and modifications are made, the TUPIX system is set into motion and will work autonomously.
